With the ever increasing reliance people have on computers, it is still surprising to see the amount of people who do not back up their business or personal data. Most just cant seem to find the time or don’t know the best method to backup the data. Others just cant see the reason for it and assume that ‘data loss will never happen to me'
Data loss can be caused by a number of things including viruses, hardware faults, software faults and even theft! Imagine having all of the wedding photos, MYOB data files or other personal data stolen or damaged and not having a copy. This would be devastating.
Backing up your data is quick and easy to do, and there are a number of options you can choose from:
CD/DVD - Backing up specific files to a CD or DVD is quick and easy. Remember that discs can be affected by humidity, so always store discs with Damp Rid or a similar product to keep the moisture away.
USB Thumb Drive - These are small USB ‘sticks’ that come in sizes ranging from 1GB right through to 32GB. They are small, cheap and very portable. Be sure to purchase a quality name brand product as these will inevitably last longer than the cheapies.
External Hard Drive - This is a popular and very easy way of backing up your computer. They come in a range of sizes and can be setup on your PC to carry out automatic backups. This is recommended if you are constantly adding new files that require backing up such as photos, business documents and more.
